1. What are the CS, CS: Source, and Half Life server commands?

To log in with your rcon password type the following in the console:

rcon_password yourrconpassword

A great resource for server commands can be found Here
Some basic Counter Strike commands can be found Here

2. What is FTP and how do I use it?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Simply put, it is a method by which files are transferred from your home PC to your gameserver. To access FTP, you can type: ftp://your game server IP here. Do not include the port. When prompted, type in your username and password we have provided to you. If you are new at this, it may be best to ask a friend who knows what they are doing to help. Remember to make back ups of all configs before changing anything.
You may also use Flashfxp which is an FTP Client ( Flash Fxp Recommended )

3. Why am I getting lag on my server?

First, it is essential to know what cause lag on a gameserver. There are a few variables involved:

The first variable is, of course, is the processing power of the server itself. For instance, a 1.2ghz machine with 128mb of ram is going to provide less power to run your particular game than say a Dual Xeon with 2gb of ram. The less powerful the server, the more the machine will struggle to handle the information being sent back and forth to the server. This "struggling" leads to poor frame rates and lag. This is why we only run the most powerful servers available.

Secondly, the network connection is vital. There are too many issues involved with this to be listed here, but here is a brief synopsis. Basically, the larger the network "pipe" theserver is connected to, the more data it can transfer without being bogged down by all the packets being sent and recieved. The strength of the routers used by the network are also important because they route the connection from your isp to your gameserver. Oftentimes, the path via these routers can be the cause of lag if a bad router is shut down to redirect network traffic. tom inimize these problems, we use 100mbit connections.

Thirdly, it is your connection to the server! People often fail to realize that if they connect to their server on 56k they are going to experience latency no matter what is done on the server's end. Your ISP also plays a major role. Your ISP can be the cause because they control your access point to your internet connection. Remeber, if you lag and others do not, it may be your ISP!

Lastly, it is your settings and system specs that effect gameplay. If you have an out of date video card or the minimum of RAM in your machine, this may cause frame rate lag. The only way to decrease fram rate lag is to upgrade your system. Your settings as well effect game play. For instance, in SOF2, you will have lag if you do not set your rate correctly. This is true for many games. It is wise to check the settings of your game to make sure they are optimal.

4. How do I stop or restart my server?

The command to stop and/or restart your game server is: rcon quit. This will cause your gameserver to stop, then restart after a minute or two. This is best used when you have made changes to the configurations and want them to execute.

5. I am a Linux customer. How do I access my server?

You will still be able to access your server via ftp. However, you may use Putty
to access your server.
Logging in to your server.

1. Download Putty which is required for connections via SSH (Secure Shell). Make sure you download the version according to your operating system.

2. Once the download has finished run putty. You will see a box appear. You now need to get your welcome e-mail and fill in the ip of your server in the 'Host Name (or IP Address)' box. Then you must select the protocol SSH. This should automatically change the port to 22. Now go down to the Saved Sessions box and enter a name for this connection e.g. 'Clan Server' . Once you have done this you can now click 'Save' to save the settings in putty. Now click 'Load' to make sure the settings are loaded then 'Start'.

3. The first time you login to putty you will get a security alert asking if you want to trust our host key. To continue click yes. You should then be prompted with a black screen saying 'Login As:' Enter your FTP/SSH Username here and press enter. Allow a few seconds for a response. Putty will then prompt you for your password. This is your FTP/SSH Password. Type this in and press enter. Remember passwords and usernames are case sensitive.

4. You are now logged into your game server.

Stopping / Starting / Restarting your server.

When you first login to your server you are in your home directory. This is the same directory as you start in when you login via FTP. When you login via ftp you should see a file called 'start_gamename' (where gamename is an abbreviation of the game you are running). To see this file in putty type 'ls' (no quotes).

To start your server type './start_gamename' Your game server should now be running.

Also in the folder there should be a file called 'stop.sh' Top stop your server type ./stop.sh

Restarting your server is done that same was as starting.
